My Zombie ate my Homework.

I was a shitty student. I made it through high school by a combination of not giving a shit, and having a uncanny ability to remember things I am told. A more accurate statement would be that I remember things I hear, I rarely took notes and NEVER did homework, and was still able to do well on tests based on my memory. Doing well on tests and getting shit marks for not doing homework stuck me with a "skin o' my teeth" passing grade. I actually had to scramble to pass my last English class, without that credit I would not graduate or at least have to do summer school.

I wound up writing a short story entitled "My Zombie ate my Homework." It was awful, It was an attempt to explain why I had never handed in a paper to her all year, all the while trying to be funny enough to distract her from the fact that my grammar knowledge was non existent. It didn't work. I got a 68% as a grade, and I narrowly avoided summer school.

The most ironic thing is that my "legendary" memory has completely failed me at to the content of that short story.

Wow. Sounds exactly like my high school career.

Lou,
I always wrote homework off as teachers too lazy to do their fucking job and just teach for 40 minutes. I never did it either, ever. I used to get my ass kicked every time a report card came home, and it didn't change a thing with my mindset. I did well in classes that interested me, otherwise it was like pulling teeth. None the less I graduated and went on to the Marines to be part of the murder machine. I was in class in Memphis, about half way through a very dry unit on semiconductors, (I was to be an electronics tech.) when we all failed a test that was certainly tought poorly, and we all got our drunk on the night before. The Sgt Major of our unit did a walk through of our class and checked our study book, (read homework) and when he got to me, my book was in pristine un-worked in condition. Man was he pissed off. I got a ton of extra boot camp type training that weekend and decided that it was time to break with tradition and do homework for a little while since I was government property and all.

Fun with the government vol. 1
